Eddie Durham Jazz Festival
San Marcos Celebrates a Jazz Legend

Eddie Durham Jazz Festival 2025 poster

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Calaboose African American History Museum presents the Eddie Durham Jazz Festival — a full day of live music, art, and film spread across Eddie Durham Park and the historic Cephas House.

The festival honors the legacy of Eddie Durham, San Marcos’s own jazz pioneer, guitarist, trombonist, arranger, and composer whose work helped shape the swing era and beyond. This year’s program features live jazz performances, Hank Hehmsoth’s exhibition of jazz-inspired abstract art, and screenings of NEA-supported jazz films — including the acclaimed Eddie Durham Retrospective.

San Marcos remains one of the few American cities to celebrate a hometown jazz artist with a park, a museum, and an annual festival. Join us for a day that blends music, art, and history in tribute to Durham’s enduring influence.
